MINEDUC and MINISPOC hold a press conference to announce 2019 International Literacy Day
Kigali, 05 September 2019, the Ministry of Education together with the Ministry of Sports and Culture held a press conference to announce the upcoming the upcoming celebrations of the International Literacy Day and the Launch of the National Literacy Month 2019 which will take place on 08th September 2019 in Nyamagabe district / Southern Province.
In his briefing notes to the media, the Minister of State Dr. Isaac MUNYAKAZI said: As the Governement of Rwanda aspires to be a knowledge based economy, we believe that reading and writing in different languages is a way to achieve this. He later added that the Ministry of Education has put in place a new competency based curriculum which recommends that from Primary 1 to Primary 3, all subjects be taught in Kinyarwanda so that in upper classes these children learn better all the subjects.
The Minister of Sports and Culture Mrs Esperance NYIRASAFARI said that every Rwandan should play his/her role to uplift the reading culture.
Worldwide, The International Literacy Day will be celebrated under the UNESCO theme, “Literacy and Multilingualism. At national level, the celebrations will be held under the theme “Reading and writing in different languages is a source of knowledge.” The event will also mark the beginning of the National Literacy Month in Rwanda.
